Et Tu Brute?
That’s right! This year the Ides of March coincides with the annual
Los Olivos Ladies First Spring Art Show. In case your Latin is Rusty – that
is the Saturday 15th of March. But instead of Julius Caesar’s demise,
or the snow of 1999, we’ll be here to honor our women artists.
Please join us for this special event. The art galleries of Los Olivos
welcome you to the 21st annual opening. Young ladies will greet you
with a flower as they join our strolling musician, Jerry Coelho,
between noon
and 3pm. Each of the galleries in town will celebrate with receptions
during the afternoon to honor their own artists, many of whom will
be demonstrating in the medium and style of their choice.
Watercolorists, Sheila Underwood, Peggy Fletcher and Cathy Quiel…..
will be applying their splash of color to paper; oil painters, Jean
Lubin,
Sandra Heller, Cinthia
Joyce, Ilona Rymer, and Donna Moser, will dazzle
you with the brilliance of color in their pallets. Carol
Clarke and Kris
Buck are smooth with their pastel treatments. Camille Ranga Dellar,
Julie Fish and B.J. Stapen will be working their magic in acrylic,
while Minnie
Anderson does pencil drawings of passerby’s. Also demonstrating
will be mixed media guru Gene Inglis Ward as she pieces together
something new. Don’t miss sculptors Robin Cappon working
in clay, Dee Prater demonstrating her lamina process, and Fayrene
Parrish who generally works
in oil with pallet knife, but who may decide to carve stone or
sculpt in clay for a later firing.
In addition to a reception and demonstrations Judith Hale Gallery
will be featuring “The Young Women of Ladies First”. Three young
women will be honored including local artists Sammy Hefley and Karina
Puente, as well as landscape artist Jessica Garrett. Take a moment to
meet Sammy Hefley, 14 years old, who has produced her second bronze horse
sculpture. She will be showing the basics of beginning with a new armature
and application of clay for a new piece. This is also an opportunity
to talk with the talented and vibrant Karina Puente whose artwork is
constantly progressing as she finds new avenues of creativity. Take time
to view Jessica Garrett’s oil landscapes. Her ability to capture
the moment and emotion in nature will inspire you to spend more time
in the great outdoors.
For more information call (805) 688-1222 or (805) 693-1233, or inquire
online at www.judithhalegallery.com. Don’t miss the beauty of a
great spring day committed to honoring many talented female artists.
Ladies First Spring Art Show will continue through the end of April.
