His official art training took place at Bellas Artes, Carlos Baca Flor of Arequipa. Julian began work in the commercial field for a large Peruvian department store upon graduation. Lacking fulfillment, he returned to his former school Bella Artes to continue his education. Upon return to school, Soncco was selected to work with two well-known Peruvian television stars. The work involved set design & building for television programming as they traveled throughout Peru. The experience exposed him to the exquisite beauty of the country, which eventually became his inspiration.

Julian used watercolor to capture his travels. His innate curiosity and interest in art took him to both North and South America. Among the cities visited were New York, NY, Bogata, Columbia, and Mexico City. Mexico City became his home for ten years, and it was here that he earned three national watercolor awards, naturally enhancing his international reputation.

Although Soncco paints primarily in watercolor, he began five years ago doing works in oil as well. Taking much of his inspiration from the nostalgic scenes in his native village in Peru, he is also a dedicated artist who enjoys painting landscapes.

Julian Soncco currently resides in Scottsdale, Arizona, where the impressive desert scenes that surround him are naturally influencing him.
