Fayrene Parrish

The joy of doing what she loves reflects in both her presence and her work. Receiving her schooling in San Diego, Fayrene returned to her birthplace, Santa Monica, CA. Her time in the Los Angeles area placed her in the television and film industry, both behind and in front of the camera. Eventually, her sculpture artistry took precedence when offered representation by Challis Galleries in South Laguna. More »

Fayrene redirected her artistry for the next fifteen years in successfully creating etchings and paintings that were focused on environmental themes. She has taught all three of her art mediums in her studio, as an invited instructor in the public school system, and in workshops in the Northwest, California, and Hawaii. Avid boaters, she and her husband lived on board, exploring the Northwest and other new waters. During her stay in the Northwest, Fayrene was invited to juror fine art events throughout the Puget Sound area. Among her credits are the origination of the The Arts In Anacortes program and founder of Madrona, A Curriculum For The Arts in Anacortes, WA.

Her return to sculpture began a few years ago with stone carving. She currently heads the SLO Sculptors at the San Luis Obispo Art Center. As a member of the California Art Club, she takes pride in having had one of her pieces juried in 2002 at the 92nd Annual Gold Medal Show in Pasadena, CA.

Sketching and painting in the wilderness, en plein air, has led to the development of the new ‘Habitat’ series. “Painting outdoors is one of the joys of being an artist. After I have settled down and have been painting for a while … the birds and creatures return and fill the air with their sounds. Some of my most precious memories have been provided by critters stumbling upon me while I’m painting or sketching.” She is one of 50 artists juried through out the U.S. to be in the 2002 San Luis Obispo Plein Air Painting Festival.

Her work is in the corporate collections of IBM, the United States Government, Bell Telephone, Bank of America, Chrysler, General Motors, Xerox, Boeing, and Safeco.
