Vern
McWilliams
Set
amidst the wispy shadows of a pepper tree stands an inviting structure
fashioned of old barn wood. Inside the wide Dutch doors of this studio
are a collection of Western artifacts and the heart of a true cowboy.
With a horse trailer parked behind the rail fence, a tree size stack of
rusting horseshoes, and an iron bull for roping practice, a bit of the
West resides here. More »

You
can tell a cowboy by his hat and Vern McWilliams is a working Wyoming
cowboy who wears many hats. Using the lost wax method of casting he has
recreated famous hats in silver. Vern's silver display hats capture in
detail those worn by Tom Mix, John Wayne, Matt Dillon, and other cowboy
stars. Whether riding the range or in rodeo Vern knows horses from the
ground up--having landed there a time or two. Horseshoes like cowboy hats
are a tool of the trade, so it seemed natural to incorporate the horseshoe
into silver. As an accessory to his bolo ties this artist has recreated
a bit of cowboy history in his belt buckles as well. Look for his brand
in each piece of his silver work.
