Gordon Luce
“It is amazing how good paintings successfully
capture the atmosphere, the sun, the shade, the color, even seemingly
the smell and feeling of a place or event, more than realistic photos
or other depictions ever could.”
Gordon Luce was born and raised in California and has
traveled extensively throughout the United States. After obtaining a
Master of Science degree
and building a successful career, Gordon began training in drawing
and oil painting years ago. He has since devoted himself full-time to
his
second career as an artist. More »

“The desire to draw has been with me as
long as I can remember. I most distinctly remember sitting next to
my friend
David in junior high school, who would take a pen and create gorgeously
fantastic science-fiction type scenes. I remember thinking that I would
give almost anything to be able to draw and create art like he did.”
Needless to say, Gordon’s taste in art has changed since his junior
high school days. Although occasionally he will paint a still life, indoor
or figurative scene, Gordon derives the most enjoyment from painting
outdoors. He is attracted to many types of scenes, but prefers pure landscape
(containing no people), beach scenes with people enjoying the sun and
surf, and desert scenes. Most recently he has been painting city scenes.
“When selecting a scene to paint, something about it has to
grab me. Sometimes it is a feeling I get when observing the scene.
It might
be the patterns
of shadow versus light, the activity or interplay of colors.”
Gordon has participated in several juried and invitational plein
air festivals including Carmel Plein Air, San Luis Obispo Plein
Air, Borrego
Springs Invitational, as well as many other juried and invitational
shows. He has obtained significant awards and recognition along
the way.
Gordon is represented by the Judith Hale Gallery, Los Olivos, CA.
His is a member of the California Art Club, The Oil Painters
of America, Laguna Plein Air Painters Association and Southern California
Plein
Air Painters Association.
