Lawson is a dedicated disciple of the refined, subtle elegance of the
Santa Barbara Style that inspired the creative spirits of such men as
Ed Borein and Louis Ortega. He is an artist in two mediums - sculpture

Mehl combines
the world of horses with that of fine art, and it was this skillful combination
that got him elected to the Cowboy Artists of America in 1982. He served
as President of that organization in 1998. He has been presented the
Remington
Award at the Prix de West Show held at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame
in Oklahoma City, and has received numerous gold, silver and "Best of
Show' awards at the CAA Show held at the Phoenix Art Museum. Mehl Lawson
was honored
in 1998 with the Thomas Moran Medal at the Masters of the American West
show at the Gene Autry Museum.
