While teaching music in the Bay Area he also pursued his artistic aspirations. In 1965, Robert accepted a teaching position in music at Santa Barbara City College.

At Santa Barbara City College he continued his artistic studies in drawing and acrylic painting from Kenneth Nack, oil painting from Robert Frame, and workshops with Ted Goerschner of Santa Ynez, CA, all nationally and internationally known painters. Robert credits his workshops with Ted Goerschner as having a profound influence on his painting style and technique.

Robert is a member of the Oil Painters of America and the Santa Barbara Art Association.

Robert paints mostly from life and" en plein air". He states, "I am drawn to reflective waters, harbor scenes, rural and mountain images . . . when the early morning sunlight and late afternoon shadows are constant sources of mood and light."

Other favorite painters and influences are Edgar Payne, Richard Diebenkorn, Sorolla, Kevin MacPherson, Charles Sovek, Richard Schmidt, and Dan Mc Caw.

The still life and landscapes of Robert Davis are found in art collections throughout the U.S.
