L. Davis was born and raised in California. He has worked as a professional
pianist since he was 16 years of age. He received his M.M. in music at
the University of the Pacific. During his study at University, Bob took
courses in watercolor from artist Helen B. Dooley of Carmel, CA. More »

While
teaching music in the Bay Area he also pursued his artistic aspirations.
In 1965, Robert accepted a teaching position in music at Santa Barbara
City College.
At
Santa Barbara City College he continued his artistic studies in drawing
and acrylic painting from Kenneth Nack, oil painting from Robert Frame,
and workshops with Ted Goerschner of Santa Ynez, CA, all nationally and
internationally known painters. Robert credits his workshops with Ted
Goerschner as having a profound influence on his painting style and technique.
Robert
is a member of the Oil Painters of America and the Santa Barbara Art Association.
Robert
paints mostly from life and" en plein air". He states, "I am
drawn to reflective waters, harbor scenes, rural and mountain images .
. . when the early morning sunlight and late afternoon shadows are constant
sources of mood and light."
Other
favorite painters and influences are Edgar Payne, Richard Diebenkorn,
Sorolla, Kevin MacPherson, Charles Sovek, Richard Schmidt, and Dan Mc
Caw.
The
still life and landscapes of Robert Davis are found in art collections
