Joe
Barbieri
Drawing
since childhood, Joe Barbieri took high school art classes and later studied
drawing, design, and anatomy at Nassau College in New York and Northlake

Beginning
in watercolor, Barbieri devoured instructional books and turned to local
artists and knowledgeable friends for advice, critique, and insight.
Since
1995, Barbieri's paintings have been purchased by individuals, collectors,
museums and historic hotels. Among his commissioned works are are a
series
of Western paintings and a 120' mural, depicting a cattle drive, for
the historic Driskill Hotel in Austin. He recently completed an 8'x12'
canvas
of an 1850s riverboat scene for an historic Houston hotel, currently
undergoing restoration.
In
1998 Barbieri began design work and glass painting at Stanton Glass Studio,
whose work is seen all over the Southwest. The following year he ventured
into oil painting, his preferred medium.
Barbieri
recently studied under California artist Ron Riddick, in his Painting
with a Passion workshop. He was the only artist from that workshop
to receive a full scholarship for research and development to the 2001
Prix de West Invitational Exhibition.
In
2001 and 2002, he was invited to show his work at the Annual Mountain
Oyster Club Show in Tucson, Az. In 2002 and 2003, his paintings were shown
at the Phippen Museum Show in Prescott, Az.
Barbieri
enjoys painting portraits, landscapes of the Southwest, and still lives,
but much of his inspiration is taken from the agrarian community where
he lives with his wife and five children. He is daily surrounded by scenes
such as draft horse teams planting or cultivating corn, a family working
their garden, or a group of men - young and old - rounding up and branding
calves. He hopes to communicate through his work the vibrancy of the natural
world and the simplicity and beauty of the life and relationships he enjoys
in rural Texas.
